NON-HAZMAT BOX TRUCK DRIVER

A Box Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting and delivering goods, managing loading and unloading, and maintaining timely and accurate deliveries while adhering to safety regulations. Box truck drivers typically work outdoors and spend significant time driving. They may encounter various weather conditions and must adhere to traffic laws and safety regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Box truck drivers operate trucks with enclosed cargo areas to transport goods to businesses, households, or distribution centers. Their duties typically include:

• Loading and unloading cargo using hand trucks, pallet jacks, lift gates, or forklifts when required, ensuring items are secure and undamaged during transit.
• Following pre-arranged delivery routes and schedules, adjusting for traffic or construction as needed.
• Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in safe working conditions and reporting any defects, accidents, or violations.
• Maintaining accurate records, including delivery receipts, electronic logs, and vehicle inspection reports.
• Interacting with customers and vendors, providing professional service, obtaining signatures, and addressing delivery-related inquiries.
• Assisting with warehouse operations, when necessary, such as organizing or moving inventory.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To perform effectively, box truck drivers generally need to be:

• Any MOS, prefer 88M and / or 91B.
• Honorable Discharge on DD214.
• At least 25 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Clean driving record with no major violations or accidents.
• Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy items (pick up at least 50 lbs.) and long hours of driving (no more than 11-hours of consecutive driving).
• Time management and organizational skills to meet delivery schedules efficiently.
• Attention to detail for verifying shipments and completing paperwork accurately.
• Good communication skills for coordinating with dispatchers, team members, and clients.
• Ability to work independently, often for extended periods, while maintaining safety and efficiency.

 
Notes: Safety orientation training provided during 90-day probation period. Safety training includes Introduction to FMCSA, 10-Hour OSHA 1910, AED/CPR/FA.
