Overview
A leading national law firm with a top-ranked real estate practice is seeking a mid- to senior-level associate to join its New York-based team. The firm represents institutional investors, developers, lenders, and real estate operators across a broad range of asset classes.
This role offers exposure to complex, high-value joint ventures, financings, acquisitions, and strategic real estate transactions. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, working closely with partners and cross-disciplinary teams while taking ownership of meaningful transactional components.
The ideal candidate will come from an Am Law 50 firm and be well versed in public commercial lending and sophisticated capital structures, including debt funding, asset-based lending, structured finance, and mezzanine loan transactions.
Key Responsibilities
Structure and negotiate real estate joint ventures between institutional investors and operating partners.
Advise clients on complex real estate financings, including construction loans, bridge loans, and permanent financing, representing both borrowers and lenders.
Handle acquisitions and dispositions across multiple asset classes, including office, multifamily, industrial, hospitality, and retail.
Draft and review term sheets, loan documents, JV agreements, purchase and sale agreements, and related transaction documents.
Manage multiple deal components and coordinate with cross-functional legal teams, including tax, corporate, and fund formation attorneys.
Required Credentials
J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school with strong academic credentials.
7–10 years of experience at a top-tier law firm focusing on real estate finance, commercial lending, and/or joint ventures.
Demonstrated experience in public commercial lending transactions, including debt funding, asset-based lending, structured finance, and mezzanine financing.
Demonstrated ability to handle substantial portions of real estate transactions independently.
Strong drafting, negotiation, and deal management skills.
Admission to the New York Bar or eligibility for prompt admission.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience on both lender-side and borrower-side real estate financings.
Background in large institutional joint ventures and complex capital structures.
Familiarity with fund clients or REITs is a plus.
Proven ability to operate in a high-volume, fast-paced deal environment while maintaining excellent client communication.
