Seeking Custodian for Automotive facility in Ypsilanti, MI. 

This is for a leave of abscense for 4-6 months but potential for long-term may be available.

Job Summary

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly environment throughout the assigned automotive facility. The position performs routine and specialized cleaning of manufacturing areas, offices, restrooms, break rooms, common areas, and other designated spaces while following all company, subcontractor, and company safety procedures.

The Custodian works in an industrial/manufacturing environment and may be required to operate cleaning equipment, handle cleaning chemicals, collect waste and recycling, and perform duties in areas with active production operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and clean floors throughout assigned areas.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, locker rooms, break rooms, offices, hallways, stairways, and common areas.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated collection areas.
• Clean and maintain high-touch surfaces such as doors, handles, railings, fixtures, and other frequently used areas.
• Dust and wipe down furniture, fixtures, equipment, and other designated surfaces.
• Replenish restroom and janitorial supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other consumables.
• Perform floor care, including scrubbing, buffing, stripping, waxing, and applying floor finishes as assigned.
• Operate custodial equipment such as floor scrubbers, sweepers, buffers, vacuums, and other powered cleaning equipment.
• Safely use cleaning chemicals and follow required labeling, dilution, storage, and handling procedures.
• Respond to spills, leaks, and other housekeeping issues promptly and report hazards to the supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness around production and facility areas without interfering with manufacturing operations.
• Follow designated pedestrian paths, restricted-area requirements, and facility traffic rules.
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, safety footwear, hearing protection, or other PPE as required.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, spills, maintenance issues, and other workplace hazards to the supervisor.
• Maintain custodial closets, equipment, and supplies in a clean and organized condition.
• Perform routine cleaning inspections and correct deficiencies when identified.
• Assist with special cleaning projects, facility events, shutdown cleaning, and other assigned tasks.
• Follow all subcontractor policies as well as applicable facility rules, safety requirements, and procedures.
• Work cooperatively with employees, subcontractor personnel, supervisors, and other facility service providers.
• Perform additional janitorial and facility-support duties as assigned.

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all site-specific safety policies and procedures.
• Attend required safety training and complete assigned training modules.
• Properly use and maintain all required PPE.
• Follow chemical safety procedures and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
• Immediately report injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, spills, and other incidents to the appropriate supervisor.
• Maintain awareness of forklifts, powered industrial equipment, moving vehicles, production machinery, and other hazards within the manufacturing environment.
• Keep work areas, aisles, exits, and emergency access points clear of debris and obstructions.
• Follow lockout/tagout and other facility safety procedures when applicable to assigned duties.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and climb stairs as required.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs, carry, and move cleaning supplies, equipment, and waste within the requirements of the position.
• Ability to operate custodial equipment safely.
• Ability to work in an industrial/manufacturing environment, including areas with noise, varying temperatures, and other normal facility conditions.
• Ability to wear required PPE for the duration of assigned work.

Qualifications

• Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or industrial cleaning experience preferred.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, automotive, warehouse, or industrial facility is preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment after appropriate training.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to comply with all facility security, safety, and housekeeping requirements.

Work Environment

This position is performed inside a large manufacturing facility and may involve working near active production areas, industrial equipment, vehicles, forklifts, machinery, noise, dust, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures. The Custodian must remain alert to changing conditions and follow all established safety procedures.

Performance Expectations

The Custodian is expected to maintain assigned areas to established cleanliness standards, complete work assignments efficiently, respond promptly to housekeeping needs, properly care for equipment and supplies, and consistently demonstrate safe work practices.
