Join our dynamic Data Governance team as our new Data Governance Analyst II, where where you’ll play a key role in protecting, organizing, and enabling the effective use of enterprise data.

In this role, you’ll help develop, implement, and continuously manage SPP’s data governance framework—establishing standards and providing guidance for safeguarding, storing, retaining, and using data in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements. You’ll also contribute to visualizing data, consolidating multiple input streams, and automating manual processes—all through the lens of data protection and governance.

What You'll Do

  • Design and maintain automated data flows to collect, move, and consolidate metadata, logs, and security-related data using SQL, APIs, and light scripting (e.g., PowerShell or Python).
  • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of SPP’s enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, controls, and procedures.
  • Create dashboards and visualizations (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or web-based tools) to provide visibility into governance posture and compliance.
  • Serve as a data governance point of contact, supporting stakeholder requests and promoting adoption of governance practices across the organization.
  • Assist with communication and education efforts related to data governance best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain data governance documentation such as data mappings, data flows, metadata inventories, and data dictionaries.
  • Perform data governance activities including data classification, retention, records management, privacy support, and data quality reviews to identify risks and gaps.
  • Monitor and support data governance and data protection controls, including retention, alerting, and quality checks.
  • Collaborate with technical and business teams to enhance data governance tools, improve data quality monitoring, and support data architecture standards.
  • Manage an intake queue of data governance requests and ensure timely completion within established service levels.
  • Identify data governance risks and gaps and partner with stakeholders on mitigation and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Communicate complex technical and governance concepts clearly while maintaining strong collaborative relationships across the organization.
  • Support SPP’s corporate culture, business model, and internal control requirements.

To be successful as a Data Governance Analyst II, we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, operations research, information systems, engineering, economics, or equivalent work experience supporting data governance technology processes.
  • Level II: Three (3) years’ work experience of related job experience
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, collaboration, written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience as a “team player” with strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across and at all levels within the organization.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that are required to assess effectiveness of data management practices in both simple and complex business processes.
  • Applicable knowledge of data governance frameworks or similar frameworks as a practice (i.e., data lifecycle management, data types, data lineage, data methodologies, data retention, data analytics and reporting, data protections, etc.)
  • Written documentation skills applicable to policies, processes, procedures.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, SAP BI, Power BI, Toad, Tableau, etc.)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to consume technical concepts and translate technical concepts to non-technical staff.
  • Self-starter who can create, facilitate new concepts, engage in multiple initiatives, and interact with a diverse group of stakeholders across the company with minimal oversight.
  • Flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment while handling multiple priorities.
  • Ability to gain a general understanding of industry compliance requirements.
  • Ability to apply an understanding of, compliance with, and enforcement of SPP Policies and Procedures.

Preferred

  • Experience with cloud and on-prem data systems.
  • Hands-on experience with data-related tool implementations.
  • Designing and implementing automated data workflows, including centralizing logs and events into a unified monitoring interface
  • Transferring and integrating data across systems using ETL, SQL, APIs, and light scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python
  • Developing interactive dashboards and data visualizations with tools like Tableau, Power BI, or custom web-based solutions
