Job Description
The
Lowboy Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently operating lowboy tractor trailers moving heavy construction equipment ranging from skids to large loaders, rollers, and pavers; as well as driving multi-axle highway equipment with Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) in excess of 26,001 pounds for transporting construction materials. This position is ideal for someone who has experience moving construction equipment, and has a good working knowledge of current DOT regulations and permitting requirements. Responsibilities - Drives truck to transport material/equipment to and from specified destinations.
- Verifies the types of materials being hauled as well as their weight
- Positions blocks, tie roper, and other devices to secure load during transit.
- Loads and unloads trucks
- Maintains and checks truck’s equipment and supplies to assure roadworthiness
- Checks vehicle to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order
- Clearly communicates with other equipment operators and truck drivers to ensure deliveries are according to the job specifications and timetables
- Maintains cleanliness of truck and keeps in good working order
- Notifies supervisor of currently needed or anticipated repairs
- Responsible for minor repairs and servicing of assigned equipment to maintain safety and continued operation on a daily basis
Essential Functions - Quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.

- Good coordination - required to operate the controls in the cab that manipulate the bed
- Sharp regular and peripheral vision abilities to be aware of other trucks and heavy equipment that frequently surrounds job sites
- Demonstrates quick reaction time to signals (ex. sound, light, pictures)
- Must be physically able to climb, lift, and carry 15-30 lbs
- Sit or drive approximately 70% of a 10-12 hour shift
- Stand or walk approximately 30% of a 10-12 hour shift
Qualifications - High School diploma or GED is required
- Possess a Class A commercial driver’s license with proper endorsements
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record
- Must have a valid DOT physical
- Must successfully pass pre-employment (post offer) drug screen
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in moving heavy construction equipment using lowboy tractor trailer
- Must have a strong safety record
