Job Description

North Central Florida Media in Ocala is looking for an energetic, driven, digital-savvy reporter for the online local news site . The reporter will focus on crime, courts, civic issues, and schools but will have opportunities to cover a wide array of topics as part of a four-member news team. Typical duties will include:

• Reporting, writing and posting news articles, primarily on the topics of crime, courts, civic issues and schools.
• Writing on average one article per day while developing investigative projects.
• Taking photos and video as needed.
• Crafting and posting social media content (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
• Using audience metrics to improve story ideas and storytelling strategies.
• Engaging with the community to develop sourcing, both in-person and on social media.
• Representing the company to the public to provide excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field.
• Journalism experience as an intern, in college media or the professional industry.
• Top-notch writing ability.
• A proactive attitude toward identifying and pitching stories of importance to the community
• Active engagement on social media platforms.
• The ability to learn and adapt quickly to emerging technologies.
• Teamwork skills for effective work in a collaborative, supportive environment.

This position pays $40,000 per year. It includes fantastic benefits and the opportunity to enjoy a career in digital journalism.
