Gingerbread Cottage Preschool is looking for a part-time Preschool Music Teacher beginning Fall 2026. The Music Teacher will need to be able to work one day at our Mechanicsville location and two days at our Staples Mill location each week. The student to teacher ratio is capped at 10:1. A Preschool Music Teacher must have a great love and patience for children. Qualifications needed to teach them effectively include knowledge of best practices and preschool educational methods as well as the ability to engage students and earn their trust and attention.
DutiesDuties & Responsibilities:
~Plan and implement interactive, age-appropriate music lessons aligned with early childhood learning goals
~Incorporate singing, movement, rhythm instruments, listening activities, and creative expression into weekly lessons
~Foster a joyful, inclusive, and nurturing environment that supports each child’s musical and social-emotional development
~Manage classroom behavior in a positive, respectful manner that supports young learners
~Prepare and lead two performances for parents or school events (winter and spring)
~Set up and maintain musical materials and instruments before and after class
~Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment in accordance with health and safety guidelines
Skills:
~Comfortability teaching music to young children in an early childhood setting
~ Ability to proficiently lead children in song
~Knowledge of child development and early childhood education best practices
~Energetic, patient, creative, and enthusiastic personality
~Ability to engage young children through music, movement, and play
RequirementsQualifications
Experience as a Preschool or Elementary School Teacher (required)
Certification in child CPR (or willingness to obtain certification)
Nice To HavesQualifications
Associates degree or Bachelor's degree (preferred) in Early Childhood Education or related field.
BenefitsSchedule:
~Base hours are 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (Tuesday through Thursday weekly).
~GBC follows local public school calendars and is closed during the summer. Teachers work from the end of August through early May.
~There is an opportunity for additional pay beyond the pay for normal school operating hours if the teacher participates in our early drop off and after school Cottage Kids Club programs.
~Teachers are also paid for weekly planning time and 16 hours of mandatory yearly professional development training.
~Teacher will receive paid sick days at the beginning of year two as a teacher.
~Pay scale based on education and experience, starting at $14.50 per hour.
