JOB TITLE: Tire Technician
LOCATION: Santa Barbara

FLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Tire Technician is responsible for tire inspections, repairs, and replacements on the fleet in accordance with all local, state, and federal guidelines and work in a results-oriented, fast-paced shop environment as part of a team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.

  • Must have and/or be able to pass TIA certification.
  • Able to remove and install, mount, and dismount large commercial truck tires.
  • Completes daily tire inspections on vehicles and equipment.
  • Determine repairable tire conditions and make such repairs.
  • Utilizes fleet maintenance software program to document and track repair orders and any related information such as parts usage, time allocation, and status updates.
  • Responsible for inventory, ordering and receiving of tires.
  • Assists mechanics at all levels in the completion of project work.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Proper inflation of tires to prescribed PSI per load requirements.
  • Conducts out of service tire review and analysis.
  • Performs tire service calls as necessary.
  • Reviews failed tires for warranty consideration.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures and OSHA 1910.177 standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and upon the discretion of the Shop Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Certified Tire Industry Association (TIA) is a plus.
  • Ability to take care of fleet inspections, inventory control, and supply orders
  • Must keep a fleet of 150 (plus) trucks within DOT specifications
  • Must have valid driver's license to handle some road call activity.
  • Must be willing to follow all safety procedures and work in a safe manner.
  • Knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools along with air tools.
  • Familiarity with a computer is necessary to utilize fleet maintenance software program.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, commercial license is a plus.
  • Must possess a mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge and experience in wheel torque procedures.
  • Ability to help grease and do preventative maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work with tire vendors and help develop root-cause analysis for tire damages.
  • At least one (1) year of Tire Technician experience in heavy truck or light duty truck tire maintenance.
  • Experience and/or ability to be certified for fall protection and forklift.

EDUCATION High School, GED, or combination of training and/or experience required.

CERTICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION

  • TIA training and certification.
  • Valid Class C Driver's License
  • Commercial Driver's License Class A or B is a plus

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must have some computer literacy and the ability and willingness to learn vehicle maintenance repair code terminology.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee frequently is required to walk for long periods of time on concrete floors; stoop, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to exert physical effort in handling objects up to 100 pounds. The employee will frequently push, pull, bend, twist and lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Work is performed primarily in a shop environment, occasional field environments that may require some travel from site to site and is frequently exposed to dust, grease, fumes, or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position requires employee to travel using company vehicle for service calls off-site. Required to put on protective outfits such as gloves, safety eyeglasses, safety footwear, coverall, and hardhat.

Compensation details: 20-25 Hourly Wage
