Job Title: Welder Job Description

This role focuses on repairing barges and tugboats along the river, performing primarily stick welding with some fabrication work. The welder uses a variety of welding and cutting techniques to restore and maintain marine vessels to a safe and reliable condition.

Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain barges and tugboats using primarily stick welding techniques.
  • Perform approximately 95% stick welding and 5% fabrication work on marine vessels.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to plan and execute welding and fabrication tasks accurately.
  • Use MIG welding, stick welding, and torch cutting to complete structural repairs and modifications.
  • Measure and fit components using tape measures and fitting tools to ensure precise alignment.
  • Grind welds and surfaces to achieve proper finish and prepare materials for welding or fabrication.
  • Cut, shape, and fabricate metal components according to specifications and blueprints.
  • Work safely in a shipyard/barge environment, including on and around barges and tugboats.
  • Operate welding and cutting equipment in accordance with safety procedures and industry standards.
  • Inspect completed work to verify structural integrity and adherence to project requirements.
  • Adapt to working outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience with stick welding, with the ability to perform it for the majority of daily tasks.
  • Hands-on experience repairing or working on barges, tugboats, or in a shipyard environment.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
  • Strong skills in torch cutting and grinding for metal preparation and finishing.
  • Competence in using tape measures and fitting tools to ensure precise measurements and alignment.
  • General welding qualification or certification.
  • Experience working safely in outdoor environments and around marine vessels.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Shipyard or barge repair experience is preferred.
  • Formal welding certificates are a plus.
  • Experience with fabrication, including cutting, fitting, and assembling metal components.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced industrial setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and repairs.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
