Campus Security Officer

Client: Rockingham Community College (RCC)

Location: Wentworth, North Carolina

Employment Type: Contract / Part-Time

Schedule: Primarily Friday-Sunday

Total Scheduled Coverage: 39 hours per week

Position Summary:

Rockingham Community College is seeking professional and dependable Campus Security Officers to provide security and safety services across its 19-building campus. The selected security personnel will be responsible for routine patrols, facility access control, emergency response support, monitoring designated systems, and maintaining a safe and secure campus environment.

Security officers may also be required to provide additional coverage during college holidays, graduation ceremonies, special events, inclement weather, campus closures, and other situations requiring supplemental security support.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct routine security patrols of the College's 19-building campus approximately every 60-90 minutes during assigned shifts.

- Secure and open campus facilities as requested by College personnel.

- Monitor campus conditions and remain alert to potential safety or security concerns.

- Monitor weather conditions and initiate emergency notifications in accordance with College procedures.

- Monitor designated computer/server systems and promptly notify appropriate College personnel of emergencies or unusual conditions.

- Respond professionally to security incidents, emergencies, and requests for assistance.

- Follow established written post orders, procedures, protocols, standards of conduct, and assigned responsibilities.

- Maintain a visible security presence throughout assigned areas.

- Document and communicate incidents or unusual activities in accordance with established procedures.

- Support security operations during the absence of the College's full-time security officers.

- Provide additional security coverage for special events, holidays, graduation, inclement weather, and other College activities when requested.

Required Qualifications:

- Successful completion of a basic security officer training program covering duties, responsibilities, and professional expectations.

- Ability to successfully complete required criminal background screening and employment reference checks.

- Ability to follow written security procedures, post orders, and emergency protocols.

- Strong observation, communication, judgment, and interpersonal skills.

- Professional appearance and conduct.

- Ability to work independently and respond appropriately to emergencies.

- Ability to work the required Friday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule.

- Must comply with all applicable North Carolina requirements for security personnel.

Schedule:

The regular required coverage is:

Day/Hours/Daily Coverage

Friday/1:00 PM - 10:00 PM/ 9 hours

Saturday/ 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM/ 15 hours

Sunday/ 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM/ 15 hours

Total / 39 hours/week

Additional hours may be requested for graduation ceremonies, College holidays, inclement weather events, special events, campus closures, or supplemental coverage needs.

Work Environment & Equipment:

Rockingham Community College will provide a vehicle or golf cart for patrol purposes when available. Security services are to be performed on a no-weapons basis unless otherwise authorized in writing by the College.

Compliance Requirements:

The security contractor must ensure assigned personnel meet applicable state requirements, including background investigations and reference checks. The contractor is also responsible for maintaining required workers' compensation, general liability, and other legally required insurance coverage.

The ideal candidate is a reliable, alert, professional, and safety-focused security officer who can independently patrol a college campus, follow established procedures, communicate effectively with College personnel, and respond calmly and appropriately during emergencies
