Job Description

Wylander Solutions, a recruiting company specializing in the flooring industry, is seeking a Controller/Chief Financial Officer for a company located in Chesterfield, MO.

 

Controller/Chief Financial Officer Compensation and Benefits:

This role is intentionally scoped for a hands-on finance leader who will initially be deeply involved in accounting, reporting, and financial operations, with the expectation of growing into a full Controller/Chief Financial Officer role as the scales in size and complexity. The right candidate is excited to build, not just oversee. The Controller/CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the company, providing strategic financial leadership, and serving as a key business partner to the CEO and leadership team. This role goes beyond traditional accounting—requiring strong budgeting and forecasting discipline, accountability across departments, and innovative thinking to increase revenue, margins, and cash flow.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the company’s overall financial strategy , including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
  • Oversee financial reporting , including monthly/quarterly close, financial statements, and management reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements (GAAP/IFRS as applicable)
  • Manage cash flow , working capital, and liquidity planning to support operational needs
  • Direct budget development , cost controls, and performance tracking against financial goals
  • Provide strategic guidance to the CEO and leadership team on profitability, growth, and risk
  • Supervise accounting, payroll, AP/AR, and finance staff ; hire, develop, and evaluate team members
  • Maintain strong internal controls and oversee audit processes (internal and external)
  • Develop and monitor KPIs and financial dashboards to measure company performance
  • Evaluate and support capital investments , pricing strategies, and major purchasing decisions
  • Lead banking relationships , financing, debt management, and lender reporting requirements
  • Support M&A, expansion planning, and business development with financial due diligence and modeling
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks , including insurance coverage and contractual exposure
  • Oversee financial systems and tools , ensuring accurate data, reporting efficiency, and process improvement
  • Present financial results and recommendations to executive leadership and/or board members
  • Ensure alignment between financial goals and operational execution across departments

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (MBA preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting leadership experience (5+ years in a senior role)
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Proven experience leading monthly close , financial statements, and executive-level reporting
  • Experience working with banks/lenders , financing, and managing debt/capital strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to build and oversee internal controls , audits, and compliance processes
  • High-level understanding of tax planning and regulatory requirements
  • Expertise in financial modeling , profitability analysis, and strategic decision support
  • Experience leading and developing a finance/accounting team
  • Strong business partnership skills—able to advise operations and drive performance improvements
  • Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, etc.) and Excel
